Hello, If the machine is a Domain Controller, I don't you can do this. If the machine is a member server, logon to the server using machine account and right click my computer, select manage, local users and groups, Isaac <ghurty@gmail.com> wrote in message news:89c27c41-afed-4196-b554-037837a61dbc@37g2000yqp.googlegroups.com... > If I have a Active Directory admin account, how can I reset the > password of the local administrator on the Server 2003 machine? > > Thanks |

On the DC directory? That can be done using ntdsutil. It isn't actually a "local" administrator but the Directory Services Restore Mode-Administrator. Hello ghurty@gmail.com, If the server is a domain controller, you have not a "real" local administrator. You can reset the password on the account used for Active directory restore mode with ntdsutil according to this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322672 Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm > If I have a Active Directory admin account, how can I reset the > password of the local administrator on the Server 2003 machine? > > Thanks > |

Thank you, it worked. Where is a good place for me to read up about all these extra utilities. As far as I know, this is not covered in MCSE. There are a lot of things that aren't covered in that MCSE certification ;-) Most of those things are covered by TechNet whitepapers and sites. You get to read them one by one when running into issues. TechNet is a good resource for things like that - as are technical blogs. Hello ghurty@gmail.com, you will not find a list with all tools available. Technet is a good resource and most of the time if you have problems you can find help here or search google. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm > Thank you, it worked. > > Where is a good place for me to read up about all these extra > utilities.
