administrator password not accepted after changing it

Hi
Since I don't exactly know what is causing my problem I'm not sure if this
is the right area to post but I'm thinking it might be a problem with my
server not talking correctly to the Domain controller so I thought here was
the best place.

We recently changed the domain administrator account. Since then rdp for our
sharepoint server has stopped working for the administrator account. My
personal login works for rdp to the sharepoint server though. rdp for the
administrator account works for all other servers. I can log into the
sharepoint server as domain administrator from the console fine...
very weird and I haven't been able to find any solutions so far in my searches
any help would be great - thanks

That is strange. I guess I'll ask the obvious: Was the new password was
typed in correctly?

The last time this happened to me, and yes, me, I had the caps lock down
when I entered the new password. It took me about a half hour to figure that
one out. I'm not saying that is the cause of your issue, but one thing to
look at.

Is your personal account is an admin account? If so, log in and reset the
password. If not, are there any other backdoor accounts that are domain
admin? (Always good to have at least one).

Re: administrator password not accepted after changing it

Hello Matt,

If the new domain administrator account works on all other machines except
on the sharepoint, i agree with Ace to make sure that you are not having
caps lock enabled or maybe your keyboard language is different.

Or is that an open session where you logging on to? Then you have to logoff
before the new password comes into play.

Best regards

Matt,
have you saved your credentials for the RDP connection you are using for the
Sharepoint server?

Re: administrator password not accepted after changing it

Hi Guys
Thanks for all the quick replies.
Yes I made sure the caps lock was not on lol
I even typed the password in the username field to make sure it was typing
correctly incase different keyboard set was being used.
I haven't got the username and password saved in the rdp I am typing it in
manually and have tried many times as it didn't make sense.
Unfortunetly we are a global company using one domain with domain
controllers in each city/country which replicate with each other so changing
the administrator password to just fix this 1 server is not an easy option.
I am wondering if the replication is not working correctly with active
directory, but why would it not work for only 1 account the administrator
when I can log in on a server in india using my account or the US no problems.

I also just noticed today that if I try to log in on any workstation from
the console as administrator it says username or password incorrect which is
what got me thinking its an active directory replication problem?

thanks

Re: administrator password not accepted after changing it

Hello Matt,

You can check replication with repadmin /showrepl from the command line or
start replmon(GUI) from the run line. Therefore you have to install the support\tools\suptools.msi
from the 2000/2003 installation disk.

Additional run dcdiag /v and netdiag /v to check the DC's for errors.

Best regards

Re: administrator password not accepted after changing it

Hello Matt,
To eliminate if it is a replication issue, try creating a test account in
one DC and give time to replicate, then logon to a DC in the remote site in
question and check in AD if that account have been replicated.
