mixed 2003/2008 domain controllers

Sponsored Links
Hello,

I currently have2 sites (diff networks) that have DCs that are Windows 2003
SP2. I am adding a 3rd site and wanted to know if I could go with Windows
Server 2008 for it? Will it allow me to have a mixed 2003/2008 DC
environment? Are there any special steps I need to perform?

TIA!

Yes you can. For details, refer to

Re: mixed 2003/2008 domain controllers

yes you can.

to be able to introduce w2k8 DCs, you need to run:
ADPREP /FORESTPREP
ADPREP /DOMAINPREP /GPPREP
ADPREP /RODCPREP (only needed when using RODCs, but it does not hurt
executing it if you in the future need RODCs)

Hello param@community.nospam,

No problem with that. For the 2008 DC you have to upgrade the schema to version
44 with adprep command.

Re: mixed 2003/2008 domain controllers

Although everything everyone has recommended in here is correct at this time
I am going to recommend that if you want to bring up 2008, start with a DC
at your home site. You will have to prep the schema as per other defintions
but 2008 is a very new o/s and there are caveats that go along with this.
Have you tested your backup scheme to see if it works with 2008, how about
your patch management, any other type of monitoring tools. Go very slowly,
we are on the cusp of rolling out 2008 to member servers and we have had to
do dome work to ensure that we were able to use in a full controlled
environment.

Just my opinion and I really like 2008, but I believe you have to understand
it well before proceeding.

Hi
Yes, is supported. I suggest you to go to the MS website for 2008 and review
the documentation for that product.
