| mixed 2003/2008 domain controllers
I currently have2 sites (diff networks) that have DCs that are Windows 2003 SP2. I am adding a 3rd site and wanted to know if I could go with Windows Server 2008 for it? Will it allow me to have a mixed 2003/2008 DC environment? Are there any special steps I need to perform? TIA! |

Yes you can. For details, refer to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc733027.aspx hth Marcin <param@community.nospam> wrote in message news:ebIAYPleJHA.1336@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Hello, > > I currently have2 sites (diff networks) that have DCs that are Windows > 2003 SP2. yes you can. to be able to introduce w2k8 DCs, you need to run: ADPREP /FORESTPREP ADPREP /DOMAINPREP /GPPREP ADPREP /RODCPREP (only needed when using RODCs, but it does not hurt executing it if you in the future need RODCs) http://blogs.dirteam.com/blogs/jorge...ing-to-ad.aspx also see: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=948070 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944043 http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc731188.aspx http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=946405 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=949257 -- Cheers, (HOPEFULLY THIS INFORMATION HELPS YOU!) # Jorge de Almeida Pinto # MVP Identity & Access - Directory Services # BLOG (WEB-BASED)--> http://blogs.dirteam.com/blogs/jorge/default.aspx BLOG (RSS-FEEDS)--> http://blogs.dirteam.com/blogs/jorge/rss.aspx ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ * This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties and confers no rights! * Always test ANY suggestion in a test environment before implementing! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ################################################# ################################################# ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ <param@community.nospam> wrote in message news:ebIAYPleJHA.1336@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Hello, > > I currently have2 sites (diff networks) that have DCs that are Windows > 2003 SP2. Hello param@community.nospam, No problem with that. For the 2008 DC you have to upgrade the schema to version 44 with adprep command. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc731728.aspx Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm > Hello, > > I currently have2 sites (diff networks) that have DCs that are Windows > 2003 SP2. | Re: mixed 2003/2008 domain controllers
Although everything everyone has recommended in here is correct at this time I am going to recommend that if you want to bring up 2008, start with a DC at your home site. You will have to prep the schema as per other defintions but 2008 is a very new o/s and there are caveats that go along with this. Have you tested your backup scheme to see if it works with 2008, how about your patch management, any other type of monitoring tools. Go very slowly, we are on the cusp of rolling out 2008 to member servers and we have had to do dome work to ensure that we were able to use in a full controlled environment. Just my opinion and I really like 2008, but I believe you have to understand it well before proceeding. -- Paul Bergson MVP - Directory Services MCTS, MCT, MCSE, MCSA, Security+, BS CSci 2008, 2003, 2000 (Early Achiever), NT4 http://www.pbbergs.com Please no e-mails, any questions should be posted in the NewsGroup This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. <param@community.nospam> wrote in message news:ebIAYPleJHA.1336@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Hello, > > I currently have2 sites (diff networks) that have DCs that are Windows > 2003 SP2.
