    Change IP on domain controller

We are running 2 domain controllers in our office. Both these DCs are GC's and AD integrated DNS servers. Due to some reason we need to change the IP Subnet of both tehse DCs and change the server IP as well. Now here what I need to know is How can I assign a new IP to a domain controller without breaking up DNS or anything like that.

    Please help.

Re: Change IP on domain controller

There are 2 ways to do the same. First, Re-ip the DC, open a command prompt and run 'netdiag /fix' from the Windows support tools folder.

And second, Re-ip the DC, stop the netlogon service, open a command prompt and run ipconfig/flushdns, then run ipconfig/registerdns, restart the netlogon service.

After doing this just make sure you change client settings for DNS WINS etc etc, so if you're running DHCP on any of these servers the scopes will need updating as well as your client IP setings.

Hello Generosity, first start with FSMO roles holder, change the ip address of one DC and reboot. If it is online again boot the other. After reboot check DNS management console that the records changed correctly.

Once done, now you need to run dcdiag /v, netdiag /v and repadmin /showrepl before and after the change to exclude/solve errors.

    Thats it.

RE: Change IP on domain controller

Well, as far as i know the biggest problem you will come through is dependencies on the IPs. If you have DHCP configured to use them, you will need to address this. APart from this you might also required to re-mediate the dependencies for any client computers and servers that have these IPs hardcoded.
