| Missing Objects in Group Policy Editor
Hi Folks, Hopefully someone can help me with this issue. We have our 'Default Domain Policy' which we use to control our Domain's Group Policy. Recently something has happened so we cannot see some of the Objects. For example we have a Desktop image set, which in Group Policy Management we can see under settings, but when we go to edit it in the Group POlicy Object Editor, it's not there. Below are some of the Objects we cannot see: Control Panelhide Policy Setting Force classic Control Panel Style Enabled Desktophide Policy Setting Remove the Desktop Cleanup Wizard Enabled Desktop/Active Desktophide Policy Setting Active Desktop Wallpaper Enabled Wallpaper Name: C:\wallpaper.gif Example: Using a local path: C:\windows\web\wallpaper\home.jpg Example: Using a UNC path: \\Server\Share\Corp.jpg Wallpaper Style: Stretch Windows Components/Internet Explorerhide Policy Setting Disable changing accessibility settings Enabled Disable changing Automatic Configuration settings Enabled Disable changing color settings Enabled Disable changing font settings Enabled Disable changing history settings Enabled Disable changing home page settings Enabled Disable changing language settings Enabled Disable changing link color settings Enabled Disable changing proxy settings Enabled Any help would be grate fully received. Cheers, Steff |

| Re: Missing Objects in Group Policy Editor
Hi Marcin, Found the filtering and I am filtering nothing...I seem to have lost the objects, and I have tried differing the FIlter to see if anything shows up and None do. I've found where to add and remove templates, but it's know which templates I need. As seen below I need the ones that are there but am not sure where to find them. Steff, the settings you listed are included in the inetres.adm and system.adm hth Marcin "SteffK" <SteffK@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:654D112B-B081-4BA3-A5E1-91CE8DCCCD37@microsoft.com... > Hi Marcin, > > Found the filtering and I am filtering nothing...I seem to have lost the > objects, and I have tried differing the FIlter to see if anything shows up > and None do. > > I've found where to add and remove templates, but it's know which > templates > I need. > > As seen below I need the ones that are there but am not sure where to find > them. > > Cheers, > > Steff > > "Marcin" wrote: > >> What settings do you have turned on under View/Filtering in the GPO >> Editor? >> >> hth >> Marcin >> >> "SteffK" <SteffK@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message >> news:BB9DDFB2-D444-4FCD-A15B-4BCBD0232402@microsoft.com... >> > Hi Folks, >> > >> > Hopefully someone can help me with this issue. >> > >> > We have our 'Default Domain Policy' which we use to control our >> > Domain's >> > Group Policy. >> > >> > Recently something has happened so we cannot see some of the Objects. >> > For >> > example we have a Desktop image set, which in Group Policy Management >> > we >> > can >> > see under settings, but when we go to edit it in the Group POlicy >> > Object >> > Editor, it's not there. Hi Macin, Those are in there, but I cannot see them. I have checked the filtering but that is off I can see the settings in the GPM under the Settings Tab, but the system adm templates aren't showing up to allow me to set them. Any more Ideas? |

Try removing them from the list. Once they're out, re-add them. |

| Re: Missing Objects in Group Policy Editor
I've been having issues with many fresh installs of XP on different laptops, though all of them DELL, for several month now. GP edit only shows the "Windows Components" template under "Administrative Templates" in the "User Configuration" section. The same missing templates (when the problem occurs) every time I install XP from the same Windows XP Pro CD (which includes SP3. Original DELL CD). The problem does not always occur but I'd say around 75% of times it does. Whenever it does not, the whole installation is just as it should. I've looked around the net several time last few month. I've tried MS guides on re-applying MMC's and that has not helped. But, I finally found this thread which helped me. Reading Marci's post mentioning system.adm got me to searching on it and I then got to MS download site for adm package and installing the correct package from there solved the problem. Now I have GP editor complete with all the templates it should have. Here is the URL to MS download of the adm packages: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en One thing I do wonder about though is why I sometimes see a "Filter" section in the View menu of the GP editor and other times I see a Domain Controller Options section. We are not using any MS DC's but maybe it's enough with Linux server connections? |
